Full Circle Moments:
What 20 Years in Neonatology
Taught Me About Life, Love & Loss

In Full Circle Moments: What 20 Years in Neonatology Taught Me About Life, Love & Loss, Dr. Terri Lynn Major-Kincade invites us to join her on a roller-coaster ride through a fascinating world of magic, miracles, plastic boxes, blessings, and burdens-the world of the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

In a montage of interwoven stories and poignant examples, Dr. Terri explains how she helps tiny human beings in plastic boxes say both “hello” and “goodbye” to their parents, and how she helps to empower the families of those infants to make difficult, seemingly impossible, decisions.

In a heartfelt tribute, she tenderly thanks the preemies, her tiny patients, for helping her to discover the power of the human spirit, to experience moments where the art of medicine supersedes the science of medicine, and to be reminded that, even if it only lasts for a few weeks or days, all life is precious.

CARE WITH COMPASSION

Dr Terri—My promise…We begin and end with Hope.

In the Neonatal Intensive Care Nursery, I meet families every day, who were not planning to meet me. Families trying to find hope in a sea of darkness, an unexpected storm. I meet staff every day looking for tools to help families manage difficult choices and to help them find the light for their own journeys as caregivers. My gift is helping families and staff navigate the chaos that is the ICU nursery through the Gift of Pause for informed decision making. My promise is that we begin and end with Hope. No matter what I will leave you with light for the journey.
